100 Years of Style

OK guys, you have to watch this video (BOO BLOGGER FOR NOT BEING ABLE TO POST IT!) . It's a dance montage showing 100 years of style. And you really how style has progressed from 1900s til now. It's amazing how creativity and passion has allowed us to push the boundary every single year. Plus I love the 80s segment and the Vogue references! TDF!

On other news, this is an amazing picture!

In the library part deux

Christian Dior (when Galliano was still around, they should really bring him back)
Armani Prive for Lady Gaga, I want a pair of these bad boys!

So guys, I'm back in the library. And obviously, I'm still on If Style Could Kill. Since I'm free for most of the day, I'd love to meet YOU, my dear readers. I have no friends in real life. Ha ha!  Actually, it's true.

Tomorrow I'm going to this invitation-only brunch and I have nothing to wear. I'm thinking of wearing this mega shoulder padded cardigan I have from my Balmania collection, but I don't know if it's gonna be too much for brunch. But you know me, I'm always too much!

Email me or Tweet me (@j_orb)! Don't forget to follow! Ha ha!

Kiss kiss!

Library, yet again.

I've become that person who spends more time in the library than in class. All my friends have disappeared. Anywho, If Style Could Kill is a hilarious site that I love to look at when I'm bored in the library (which is every single day, I need new friends to hang out with!)! It's basically a picture site where they post pictures of fashion items (clothes, shoes, accessories) that catch the writer's attention, and they put funny comments on them. I love this site because it sees the fun in fashion that people sometimes don't see. Fashion isn't all that serious! Below are some GIFs that can be found on the site. Check it out guys!

I LOVE Coco Rocha. Plus I totally do this when I'm bored.

Alexander McQueen SS12 Backstage Video

What I love about fashion shows is that the show isn't just what's happening. The activities backstage, for me, seem more exciting because these models, even just for a short while, are the closest thing you'll get to seeing these works of art in real life. You see them fidgeting, and checking their hair. Being backstage gives you a larger perspective on the hard work that goes into producing a 15 minute show.

A Schoolboy and his Bow Tie

It's finally happened my lovely readers. I am now an international fashion superstar!!!!

Ha ha, not quite. But this is a feature my friend Belle did on me for CollegeFashionista.uk a site that can be viewed worldwide (!!!) that takes a look at the different styles of college students from different schools across the globe! Apparently, I'm the first boy to be featured from Ateneo de Manila, and hopefully not the last. I hope it inspires other boys to put more effort in their everyday dressing despite the heat (it's not that hard guys! Just bring a fan with you so you don't pass out from the heat lol)

What's annoying though is that I didn't know that I was bulging so much in my shorts. Ugh I should've checked the pictures. Anyway, thank you so much CollegeFashionista.uk for doing the feature, I feel very much honored to be included into your roster of fashionistos and fashionistas!

To check out my feature (don't forget to like, tweet, Tumblr it! Share it to your friends so they can also appreciate my bulging shorts!), and the rest of the College Fashionista website, click here.

I was wearing: blazer, Mango; bowtie, Folded and Hung; button down, Dean and Trent; belt, my sister's; shorts, Landmark Department Store; bag, Pedro; leather sandals, Our Tribe.

Til next time!

Things unnecessary.

Today the fashion world is shocked when uber-stylist, ultimate social insider and fashion icon, Josh Orbeta nixes his signature super strong shouldered jackets and second skin pants for comfort. It was reported that the VIP multi-hyphenate went around town in an oversized seersucker polo over a loose grey V-neck coyly tucked into a pair of his boyfriend's (heir to the Niarchos fortune) straight cut Dior Homme jeans. He reportedly paired it with the Proenza Schouler crocodile PS1 bag and Prada Spring/Summer 2011 platform brogues. It is unknown why the social darling decided to nix his signatures. Sources say that he did not talk at all today, not even to the legions of body guards that surround him at all times. Even though the look is very Brooklyn chic, the entire look, according to some fashion sources, is worth more than a smart car.

LOL y'all know that ain't true (am I ghetto now lol). What DID shock the fashion world recently was the theft of Marc Jacobs' SS12 collection. I don't know the details, but all I know was that it disappeared whilst in transit from Paris to London. Why wasn't it protected enough? Couldn't Marc Jacobs' have hired a private plane instead? I'm mourning the loss of this collection (affected?) and really worry that it's gonna get into the wrong hands. Well it already is in the wrong hands... not mine. But kudos to whoever pulled this shit off.

I did wear something very shocking. I DID forego my shoulder pads and tight jeans today. But only because I was shooting all day. I photographed my lovely friend Belle for her photo diary for StyleBible.ph. I wore exactly what I wrote above except my jeans weren't Dior Homme nor my boyfriend's (I don't even have a boyfriend lol). I wanted to show people that I'm not just "blazer guy" (apparently people are calling me that now), that I can still werk a wide variety of lewks not just the editorial stuff I show from day to day. I really wanted to shake things up.

The look, though comfortable, was still quite hot. By mid day I was sweating bullets. Can you say annoying.

Enough about that. The "God Wants You To Know" on Facebook told me that today I have to let go of things that are unnecessary. But how DO we know what is unnecessary. It's easier for us to point that out to other people, but not to ourselves. For us, well for me at least, everything seems so important, everything I do, I know, I care about, I love plays a part in me being who I am. I know that there ARE unnecessary things in my life, it's just that it's a bit hard to identify what they are and even harder to let them go.

Tell me your thoughts! Tell me what you think you can rid yourself of. You know how to reach me.

Kiss kiss!

God give me patience

This is how I usually am in school. Actually everywhere.

What a surprise!

Hi guys! I'm happy to find out this morning that my blog has surpassed 500 views! Is this really happening? Are people actually reading my blog? Though I'm pretty sure that most of those views are from me checking if the blog is looking ok, I'd like to say thank you (!!!) to those who actually try to read the mush that I write here. (Russia I'm looking at you! US has surpassed you in the number of views! You guys need to catch up!)

Today I'm wearing a piece from my Chanelesque collection. It's basically a white jacket (I love myself a white moment, personally, I think everyone should have a white moment every single week), with the Chanel cut and make, except this jacket has vents in the back (pics soon! LOL y'all know I'm too lazy to take pictures of myself, so if you guys want outfit pics, volunteer to take my picture, yuck, feel na feel). I'm also wearing a lavander vneck shirt and black skinny jeans. And I'm wearing Ethnu again! I really love this neck piece I got from them, I feel that it can take an outfit to an editorial level.

Speaking of editorial, my friend Erika and I were styling a shoot yesterday. For whom, I cannot say yet (yes I have secret commitments now), but for sure y'all are gonna see it real soon. Erika was gracious enough to tell me a day ahead (sense the sarcasm), so I had PLENTY (sarcasm again) of time to for pull outs and preparation. I ended up with a maleta (big suitcase) of clothes pulled from my sister's closet and from my own personal archives.

The day of the shoot was a bit of a challenge because the weather was trop terrible and it was a location shoot. And we had four locations all across the city. We started in a cinema in SM Mall of Asia, then at the Oakwood Joy~Nostalg Center in Ortigas (my new favorite place, but more on that later), then finally finishing at two locations in The Fort. It was also a bit of a challenge because since it was so last minute, we had no models nor hair and make up artists (FUN). So Erika and I put our brains together (bwaaaiiiinzzzz) and made her friend Ila model for us.Ila is a naturally pretty girl. She's your typical shy Christian girl next door with virtues and all of that stuff. Erika and I had so much fun directing her and turning her in to the model. As the shoot progressed (and the looks more editorial), this girl just killed it with every single take. We might have turned her into a monster. But a monster who can smize.

I'm so excited to post pictures for you all because you'll see how the shoot progressed through the lewks. Even though we had to cut out some of the looks I had originally planned (my gold moment will have to happen another time), we still produced some pretty decent looks with the clothes that we got together. And I really wanna show you guys the last look (a long white vest with black lapels and a split back, and an unlined lace skirt with a thigh high slit) that we shot because it's just absolute insanity. Ila just transformed before our eyes and turned into this editorial juggernaut whose legs could put some of the top models to shame (knowing me there had to be some thigh high action happening).

Oh can I just say, that last outfit that we put her in, seriously, is MOMOL (moment moment lang, or make out make out lang) and FIFIL (finger finger lang) inducing. All I can say is that two people had a very good night last night. HA HA HA.

Anywho, Oakwood Joy~Nostalg is my new favorite place in the world. It's basically a hotel-cum-serviced residence in the heart of Ortigas Center. Their beautifully designed interiors (which, as I learned, were by Ila's mom) are a refreshing sight in the business of the city. What I love about it though is that their Sangria Nights on Wednesdays, and the Serenade Nights on Fridays. They even have their own version of The Oak Room (which actually looks like the NY resto, just a really tiny version). On Sangria Wednesdays (they don't actually call it that lol), you can get a whole pitcher of Sangria PLUS a plate of tapas for only 500 pesos (absolute steal). And according to one of their marketing people May (whom Erika and I love and feel for), a pitcher of their sangria is enough to take you to a very happy place. Their Serenade Fridays also happen at The Oak Room. For the same amount of money, you can get an unlimited amount of beer OR house wine from 6-9pm (I THINK? Can someone confirm). You can call  The Oak Room to make reservations or inquiries at 719-1160. Y'all know I already made one for next week. So I better see you guys there!

After our lovely shoot, Erika and I had dinner in Tourne (toor-ney) at the Fort Strip. Our table was right in front of the door of Fitness First, so we didn't really have to order food. Ha ha ha. We had numerous MMK moments (MMK, Maalaala Mo Kaya, [or according to me, Would You Remember] is a local TV show where anyone can send in letters, and if the drama levels are TV worthy, have it turned into an episode). But then that ended when they started playing Lady Gaga.

Yesterday was so much fun despite the numerous challenges that we faced. Erika and I were even saying that we were the queens of logistical nightmares. Ha ha! Doors are finally opening for us Erika! Join us in praying, wishing and hoping that our next top top top secret job pushes through!

I'd love to see pictures of your white moments! Or just tell me about your day! (Or if you have places to drink you can recommend or blue-screen photographers) Email me at jjorbeta@gmail.com or tweet me @J_Orb

Til next time!

Less is More

Source: StyleBible.ph (if you couldn't tell already)

All I can say is: GANDA KO LANG!!! LOL if you noticed, this picture is bigger than the usual photo size I use on the blog.  Thank you Belle Rodolfo and your lovely photographer for taking this picture.

Having my picture taken or being featured for anything (in a positive light of course, even if hinde, it's still PR, but I try to maintain a good image for y'all) gives me such a high. Apart from the fact that I'm a socialite wannabe and I practically get off on attention, it is, for me, a type of affirmation that I'm finally getting it right, that I am one of the prettiest girls at the party (oooh the insecurities are coming out). Especially that it's StyleBible.ph that took my picture, I feel like I'm at par with the Daryl and Andre Changs of the world (well not with that outfit, duh, have you seen the genius that those two come up with; my friends and I actually bumped into them outside a movie house, and even on their days "off", they still look like absolute perfection).

What's funny is that that day, the last day of fashion week, is the day I chose to not put any effort into what I wore. I was just so tired from all the shows that I was like, screw it, I'm gonna be in jeans and a tshirt. And lo and behold, I was photographed for the online arm of one of the country's biggest fashion magazine. I really found it hilarious that all the other days I brought out all the nice clothes I had, all the shoulder pads, the backless jackets, the sheer shirts, there was even one day I wore almost all my accessories (that was Saturday I think). I'm the type of person who thinks more is more, but I guess that doesn't work all the time. LOL. I'm just incredibly happy to be featured, whatever I was wearing (OK not really, I  had hoped they they would take my picture that Friday when I was wearing a strong shouldered backless blazer over a sheer top by my friend and up and coming designer Enzo Montano, plus leopard print metallic socks, ugh, but life isn't perfect lol).

So what I was wearing was: a vintage leather jacket, a Calvin Klein shirt, 7 for All Mankind jeans, a braided belt fr somewhere, neckpiece from Ethnu (HELLO MJ, GILL AND AEA!), bracelets from my sister's accessories box, a PS1 inspired crocodile printed (is that the right term) bag from Pedro and shoes from Mundo.

Thanks again for the feature, StyleBible! I hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

PS: Don't judge my excessive use of run-on sentences. I know they're run-ons. I like to ramble in real life, and in this one. So suck it. Or shut the front door.

Kiss kiss!

In the Library

So today I chose to wear a piece from my SS2009 Balmania collection (with shoulder pads of course). Matched w a white Jackson Pollock shirt, a pair of classic black skinnies and white low cut Converse Chuck Taylors to tone down the lewk.

It seems that my Balmania isn't registering well with the college crowd. I've gotten so many stares from looking like a linebacker. KUDOS to my friend Mara for being able to point out the reference! My friend Marty told me that Fashion Week is over and I should wear my regular clothes again. (But I AM wearing regular clothes, I'm in a tshirt and jeans for crying out loud) My other friend Rich called me Lady Gaga (supposedly an insult, but I am deeply honored to be compared to Mother Monster) and said that I should be careful not to hit anybody. (People better get out of my way, if they even think of rubbing against my Balmainia, I am going to CUT A BITCH).

Anywho, I'm currently in the lib w my girl friend Erika helping her look for pictures for a press release of some sort. She said that the peg was sosyal (fancy, for the lack of a better term). The thing that automatically came into my mind was the very prestigious Bal de Crillion which is a debutant ball for rich bitches all over the world (I have yet to be invited, my Chanel is waiting at home, rotting away in the third world air).

I've always wanted to "come out" (not in that way, the Lord knows I came out when my mother pushed me out of her vageen) as a debutante at the Bal de Crillion. I wanna rub elbows with Francophiles, the Grimaldis and the creme de la creme of the world. I guess that will never happen. My French lace column skirt with a thigh high slit paired w my Chanelesque jacket (w vents, duh, do you think I'd go out in a jacket without holes of some sort)  will never see the light of day.

Us in the third world have a different view of a "debutante ball". It is, quite honestly, a status symbol resembling a Spanish Quinciñera more than being presented to society as a woman. But it's another reason to dress up so whatevs.

If any of you, my lovely readers, can hook me up to "come out" at the Bal de Crillion, I will give you a piece of my Balmania collection (of my choosing of course), or maybe a custom Dofeliz-Cubil (shameless plug of my line) piece.

Anyway, the reason I'm actually in the library is because I'm bored with my life and tired of fanning myself (this jacket is not suited for third world humidity). AND my friend desperately needed help. She's always come to my rescue (well not ALWAYS, not even ever), so it's time I do the same for her (uuuuuy MMK moments).

I'm barely at the library. Today's the first time I've been here in almost 8 months. Hesus. Why is the only place in this school to have strong airconditioning. I hate it.

Anyway, here I go. Tomorrow, I shop with Karla Aguas, the girlfriend of college basketball dynamite Nico Salva (Good luck in Hindunesia Nics!). More on that tomorrow.

Kiss kiss!

My girls at Fashion Week

Hello loves!

Yes, I'm still doing Fashion Week posts. You know you love me.

So I'm sitting in my bed in my underwear, no plans for tonight. My hair is blow dried and ironed to death. I'm trying to recreate Diego Luna's hair in the dance scene of Katy Perry's newest music video. If any of you know how to recreate that hairstyle, please, please, please! get in touch with me asap!

Today, I also finally watched Duran Duran's new video Girl Panic! Starring The Supers: Naomi Campbell (who is just living, breathing INSANITY in Mugler [or LV not too sure] and killer Louboutins in the opening shot), Eva Herzigova (who I confused with Linda Evangelista for the longest time), Helena Christensen, and Cindy Crawford (CRAY CRAY feathers and suits!). The video also features a cameo from the dynamic duo of Dolce and Gabbana, Domenico and Stefano. Seriously, this video is the first one I've liked style-wise since Judas. It's INSANITY (serious INSANITY I had to use the word thrice in this paragraph!)

Can I take home every single clothing item and accessory from this video??? Jesus especially the suits that out lovely girls are wearing at the end. AND ALL THAT FUR!

Anyway, on to the real post!

Today I will be writing about my favorite girls at fashion week. These girls are friends of mine (uy friends kami ni Anna Canlas! FC ha ha ha), who are truly, madly, deeply dedicated to fashion and the business of it!

Let's start with my ultimate Fag Hag Belle.

Belle at work!
My olive-skinned friend is one of the newest interns at StyleBible.ph, the online arm of the country's biggest fashion magazine, Preview. It's so weird seeing her work because she used to be one of my Babble babies. I'm not used to seeing this girl, who used to wear denim panties to school (alala mo pa yon sis?), teetering in sky-high Mary Janes, clad in this season's hottest couture. All I can say is, ANYARE? But I salute you for following your passion. LOVE YOU GIRL.

OK this is turning out to be an emotera post. I will not cry! Next up is ex-jewelry designer now Editorial Assistant at Preview, MJ Benitez.

MJ at Fashion Week in an ukay find (which I really find unbelievable)
When I heard that MJ got the editorial assistant job, I quickly posted on Twitte na buti na lang I forgot to pass my resume cause I knew I couldn't compete MJ. This woman lives and breathes fashion! I'm proud to say that I have a neck piece by MJ from her accessories brand Ethnu (are you guys still selling?) AND have been featured on her street style blog numerous times (remember I was your September girl?)

Last is my girl crush, Preview's Anna Canlas.
Anna Canlas in this season's Xernan Orticio
You can only imagine my surprise when I found out that Anna, as in the Anna  queen hubadera that I know, and have the biggest girl-crush on, is the pride and joy of UPD and Miriam. After having taken the picture above at Fashion Week, my sister-slash-assistant whispers into my ear "You DO know that that girl graduated as a summa cum laude from a smarty pants course at UP, right?". My jaw dropped to the floor. Literally. Looks can definitely be deceiving.

I love Anna's style because she's fearless when it comes to sheer, cut outs, panels and she makes the hubadera look look classy. Every time I see something backless, or sheer to death, I automatically think of Anna and how she WILL rock this look and make you want to copy her style whatever your body type. Plus she's really pretty and has really pretty hair and really pretty skin and really pretty legs AKA she's really really pretty. :D

I had the pleasure of meeting Anna at this year's Preview ball. I remember she wore this silver, scaly Ivarluski Aseron (I THINK? Super not sure) number, with HUGE side cut outs, of course. I remember her being so gracious and accommodating, taking time to answer my tweets AT the event and actually meeting me there.

Anna, watch out for your hubadera crown, cause I'm going after it! Ha ha ha. Just kidding! Thanks for giving me the courage to be a hubadera also!

I spy a junior hubadera (hubadero?)

Anywhoo, that ends this posts on the ladiez. I love you all! (this post seems bitin no?)

Kiss kiss!

The Boys of Fashion Week

Hi guys! School starts tomorrow (sucks ass). But before I throw myself into academics (naks. LOL I only have 2 classes this semester), let me whet your appetites with the delicious boys from the different shows at Fashion Week.

PS: I need a Spanish tutor. Preferably a a hot one. Someone help! Gracias!

Pics by moi.  This is gonna be a super heavy post with over 45 pics. LOL.

Can someone tell me who this is? Cause he was checking me out at Lee from the runway hahaha.

So of course I flashed my cutest smile from my front row seat.

This guy is such a cutie!

I love you Alex Pain and Igor Vican!!!

LOL this segment was funny. The look started out as leather pants. Then the guy ripped the pants and it turned into...

THIS!
